Part 2 - Examining the Rate Card

Now that you're set up with your brand, it is time to move on to the biz stuff.

To help make it super easy and transparent on what you should be paid for various requests, your team will create a ‘rate card’ specific to you.

This is based off what’s in the market, where you are at in your career, and also leaves room for your team to do some negotiating.

Here is a sample of what a rate card might look like:

Speaking/Appearances:

  • In-person keynote: $7,500 - $5,000

  • Clinic/camp: $3,000 - $2,500

  • In-person fireside chat or in-person panel: $2,500 - $2,000

  • Virtual keynote: $2,000 - $1,500

  • Additional virtual events: $1,000

  • Pro bono speeches: 2 per year max, fee is waived for the host (charity, passion project, special relationship with the host)

Social Media Rates:

  • One off social media terms and rate baselines

    • $1,500 - $1,200 for one Instagram feed post + 2 stories; has the right to take it down after 30 days.

These rates will allow your team to bring proper deals to you and also help make it easier to book you for appearances.

Remember, these are just sample rates and depend on your experience. If you’ve never given a paid speech before, it may be worth lowering your fee for the first couple as you practice. Rates will increase over time and as you gain more experience and do more business.
