  • Grace Norman

    Jamestown, Ohio
    Two-time Paralympian in the sports of triathlon and track and field; three-time Paralympic medalist. Her proudest moment was when, at 18, she won gold at the Rio Games in paratriathlon, when the sport made its Paralympic debut. Norman was born with a congenital condition that resulted in the amputation of her left leg and right big toe. She graduated from nursing school in 2020.

  • Kevin McDowell

    Colorado Springs, Colorado
    Olympic silver medalist in the triathlon mixed relay at the Tokyo Olympic Games, where he turned in the best performance in history by an American man (6th); was an elite junior racer before being diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma at age 19; six months later, after completing chemotherapy, he made is his senior-level World Cup debut. Has been cancer-free for more than 10 years and actively supports pediatric cancer research.

    Ocean advocate and endurance waterman committed to moving others from awareness to action benefitting our oceans and coastal communities; globally recognized expert in ocean and aquatic safety; host of Wave Safe ocean safety education series with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration; competes in ultra-distance and professional surf and lifesaving events. Founder of 501c3 Ocean Positive, recipient of the 2022 Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation grant.   • Carla Albano

    Ft. Lauderdale, FL
    Carla Albano is a retired lawyer and business owner. She is a lifelong swimmer who got her start in Southern California in the 1960s and 1970s, where she enjoyed a modest level of success competing in the pool and open-water venues. In 1976, Carla was the first woman ocean lifeguard in Long Beach, Calif. That year, she became a breaststroker for California State University Long Beach women’s varsity swim team. She swam for CSULB for two years. Nearly 40 years later, she joined Swim Fort Lauderdale Masters swim team in Florida and decided to swim the legendary 12.5-mile race around Key West.
