Omega signs Katie Grimes; NFL stat breakdown

Good morning. Today we do an NFL breakdown.

One of the founding principles of this newsletter has been to combine sports with the latest pop culture references. And no where has this been more evident than the 2023 - 2024 NFL season.

It has been nearly impossible to not notice the fever pitch that the NFL has risen to over the past several years. So today we do a thorough breakdown of the impact the NFL has had on sponsorship, branding, athletes and the sports world.

Sky-High Viewership: The NFL is not just flying high; it's soaring to new heights. Regular-season games hit their highest viewership since 2015, with Wild Card playoffs pulling in a whopping 137 million fans—the second-largest audience on record. The NFL is not just a game; it's a social-cultural experience.

Gold Rush in Sponsorship: The NFL brand has gone full Godzilla Minus One on the rest of sports and is the heavy weight favorite with it comes to sponsorship. With Pepsi becoming the "Official Zero of the NFL" and Toyota cruising in as the "Official Auto Partner," the league is transforming into a sponsorship playground for blue-chip brands.

Global Domination: The NFL is not just conquering the US; it's eyeing distant shores. The Global Markets Program expanded to 21 clubs in 14 international markets in 2023, with plans to touchdown in Sao Paulo, Brazil, in 2024. Get ready for more international matchups as the league expands to up to eight games in 2025.

Sponsorship Surge: Team sponsorship revenue skyrocketed by 15%, hitting $2.35 billion in 2023–24. The Cowboys may clinch the top spot, but the Bengals, Browns, and Broncos are the sponsorship underdogs with explosive growth at 64%, 47%, and 42%, respectively.

Player Power Moves: Defensive lineman Isaac Rochell stole the spotlight, surpassing Travis Kelce as the most endorsed player with a whopping 27 brand deals.

Category Kings: Government and Apparel & Accessory brands lead the charge with a 57% and 48% increase in deals, signaling an ongoing brand love affair with the NFL. And let's not forget Gatorade's league-wide blitz for its new Fast Twitch energy drink.

Post Malone & Cowboys: Post Malone and "America's Team" have cooked up something special with the Post Malone x Dallas Cowboys-themed restaurant in collaboration with Raising Cane's. Blending sports and music entertainment marketing, this iconic partnership features a 32-foot Cowboys Star and exclusive memorabilia—proof that personal passions make for the most innovative marketing strategies.

Hopefully this gets you excited for the Super Bowl in less than two weeks in Las Vegas.

Let's go!

How our marketing funnel works

I’m not typically a data person, but there is no ignoring the role that data plays in the writing world. That may sound like a silly statement, but if our content isn’t connecting with our community, then we need to know!

Here are some trends we’ve noticed in the last 30 days

  1. Traffic spikes on Wednesdays. At CG Sports, that is the day that our newsletter goes live, which means that readers are going from our newsletter to our website. This solidifies a core thought that many of us hold dear at CG Sports: that emails in inboxes matter.

  2. An organized website matters. I was surprised by this stat, but our most visited pages within our website were: the CG Sports homepage, the “About” page, and “Clients.” The takeaway? If you present a clean, organized website, then people will spend time exploring it. This, in turn, results in more inbound sales traffic and word-of-mouth knowledge about your company.

  3. Unique, educational content matters. Our “Cejih Explains” column, mostly written by CEO Cejih Yung, resonates with people. Our #1 goal is always to take the knowledge that we have and the information that we learn and give it back to you in real time. The sports marketing world should not exist to trick you and we want to help you navigate it as confidently as possible.

If you haven’t checked the data for your website in awhile, I encourage you to visit the analytics page of your website. Note the positive trends and brainstorm how you can expand on them.
