Honey Stinger signs Lilly King, Olympic Champion

Good morning. Things have officially picked up.

Hello from Cejih! It’s Feb 7th and January already feels like it was two years ago. I remember the first two weeks of 2024 feeling fairly slow. But today we are pretty much moving at 95% speed. It’s like the Olympics and Paralympics are in a few months or something!

Congrats to Honey Stinger for signing 5-time Olympic medalist and world record holder, Lilly King, as her new 2024 partner! We look forward to sharing more in the coming weeks.

In the industry, February and March are big media months for sponsors and media outlets. Companies are trying to capture athlete imagery and video content for advertising purposes. Media and news companies are booking interviews with all of the Olympic and Paralympic stars competing this summer. The saying “content is king” rings especially true right now.

Fun fact: If you enjoy writing and have a passion for the Olympics/Paralympics, they are looking for writers! Visit our "Other Big News This Week" section to learn more!

I’ll be attending multiple production shoots as well as making sure all of our new sponsorship deals kickoff smoothly. One thing I’ve learned over the years is that the first 90 days of a new sponsorship can make or break your chance for renewal. Make sure you nail the kickoff, come out of the gate with a great announcement and try to over deliver where possible. For me I try to over deliver in my responsiveness. I pretty much reply emails as fast as possible, usually within minutes. It helps set the tone for the partnership.

Once a partnership has been successfully launched into the market, I then meet with the CG Sports marketing team to create collateral about the deal. We highlight what the sponsor was looking for, why our client was the perfect fit and how CG Sports helped the deal come to life. Our creative director Nicole puts this info into beautifully designed case studies which we then share with future prospects. This collateral can now be used in emails, newsletters, websites, SMS and social media posts. It took years but we have an awesome closed loop system that has helped us punch above our weight class.

As Rocky Balboa would say, “That’s how winning is done!”

Have a good week and looking forward to some Super Bowl festivities this weekend.

Marketing should be fun!

To those outside of the business world, marketing may seem like a dry topic at times. But if you peek behind the marketing curtain, you will find a lot of people having fun creating innovative ways to promote and sell products, sponsorships, and more.

Case in point: There are clearly some Swifties at American and United Airlines.

Flights to the Super Bowl this week/weekend will feature United Airlines flights UA1989, UA2287, and UA1587 from Kansas City to Las Vegas, as well as UA1995 from San Francisco. American Airlines will also operate flights AA1989 and AA87 going to and from the Super Bowl.

The takeaway:

  • Keep your finger on the pulse. IT’s clear that there are Swifties and football fans alike at both United and American Airlines and they are in their Marketing Era.

  • Embrace creativity. Honestly, just have fun. Be solve and brave and put forth ideas that you’re excited about. That’s not only the secret to good marketing, but the secret to enjoying work.

Next time you’re in a marketing meeting, embrace the fun of the planning stages. You never know what you might create!
