How I write good sales emails

Good morning.

Let’s talk one of my favorite subjects: selling!

Much of our daily communication is through written form, specifically email. Writing a highly effective sales email should boil down to two things:

1. Getting them to open and read.
2. Getting them to reply.

That’s it. If you’re adding more than these two things, it’s likely your email will be archived, deleted or left on read.

Here are a few quick tips I use during my sales week:

1. Subject lines: Keep these 3-4 words. What you can also do is find something they are interested in. Use that single hobby as the subject followed by a “?”. If I learn that a prospect is former swimmer, I may simply use “swimming?” In the subject line.

2. Once the email is opened, the 3x3 rule comes into play: 3 paragraphs total x 3 sentences per paragraph max.

In the first paragraph, address a personalized problem. Dive deep into their specific challenges, avoiding generic statements like "cut costs" or "save time." Instead, make it resonate with their unique situation.

In the second paragraph, explain what you do in one sentence.  After that provide enough information to generate interest without overwhelming details.

In the third paragraph, avoid heavy asks like immediate interest or meetings. Instead, end with a light, interest-based call to action, such as "Open to taking a peek?" or "Up for a chat?"

By following these strategies you’ll be surprised how you can break through the noise of generic emails and engage prospects effectively!

Good luck. Let’s close Feb strong!

Alex reflected on his Instagram, "Capping off the last few weeks of travel with a medal is a great feeling, even if we fell short of the top of the podium. Still need to make improvements as we head into the last leg of the season but the greater goal is preparing for Paris this summer."

The 2024 Victoria Open LC Championships was hosted in Melbourne this past weekend! McKenzie Coan was one of several swimmers who Team USA  in Melbourne, collecting two individual medals. McKenzie grabbed a gold medal in the women's 100 freestyle and a bronze in the women's 400 freestyle.

A Resource for Everyone

Our “Explains” corner has grown quite a bit over the years and has hosted many writers. The beauty of so many of us contributing to the “Explains” corner is that we have amassed a wealth of resources available for EVERYONE.

On a recent data dive, I discovered the 5 most popular “Explains” articles (based upon number of visits in a 30-day period):

  1. Explaining Exclusivity Clauses in Athlete Endorsement Clauses

  2. How to manage multiple deals without letting things slip

  3. NIL Sponsorship Deals: What you need to know

  4. Email follow up like a sports agent

  5. Part 1 - Establishing a Rate Card

Here’s what I love about this collection: it is diverse and reaffirms that we aren’t just catering information to a fragment of the sports industry. Coaches, athletes (college and pro), fellow agents - we’re here to help all of you!

If there’s something you’d like to learn more about that we don’t have, drop a note for us and we’ll get it in the queue!

We love a good post-race Instagram recap! Visit McKenzie Coan's Instagram page for her recap of the World Series in Melbourne!

Dermasport

Dermasport is a high-performance facial skincare system created by a former competitive triathlete, specifically formulated to protect, support and aid the recovery of chlorine and sun-damaged skin. As career swimmers, Nathan Adrian and Elizabeth Beisel understand the effects extensive exposure to the elements like chlorine, salt, sweat, sun and UV can have on our skin. Dermasport went through four years of rigorous testing prior to launch with swimmers of all levels and the results have been compelling!

On a personal level, Nathan and Elizabeth have both been touched by cancer and though not skin cancer, the topic of preventative and protective skincare is very important to them. The Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Christopher Schmidt is a board-certified dermatologist and 50+ year swimmer so he knows a thing or two about the challenges swimmers face with the elements. He reformulated the product for optimal results based on the results of the studies and added a facial sunscreen to complete the four-step daily system.

Dermasport is currently running a special! All customers that purchase a Facial Moisturizer and Eye Cream will receive a free SPF 50 Sunscreen ($18 value)! Grab yours today!
